The majority of students in college suffer from sleep deprivation. The author explores the numerous causes of sleep deprivation and the effects that emanate from lack of sleep. With statistics from an original survey conducted by the author and research from several databases and websites, the author delves deep into the issue of sleep deprivation. Students involved in the survey reported with similar responses to questions regarding the reasons for their sleep deprivation and how it takes a toll on their daily lives. A common trend was noticed in which college students tend to disregard sleep as a priority when attempting to complete other tasks. In addition, students reported feeling fatigued, irritable, and unable to focus in class after a night of insufficient sleep. The author also discusses different strategies students can use to prevent sleep deprivation from becoming a bad habit.
